Julian Edelman Rebukes Question About Asking Patriots To Add Another Pass-Catcher

Julian Edelman has rebuked a question that that revolved around him asking the Patriots to add another pass catcher. The New England Patriots have been struggling to get back on track after they were hit hard by the COVID-19 virus. Cam Newton was the first to test positive and had to sit out against the Kansas City Chiefs back in Week 4. But they haven’t come back since.

Head coach Bill Belichick talked about what they were trying to do recently.

“Today’s an important day in our preparation for the Broncos,” Belichick said. “We’ve had several days now of virtual meetings between the staff members and from the staff to the players. We’ve been able to cover a lot of things. But we haven’t spent any time together, so today’s our opportunity to do that. We look forward to that. One thing that we’ve learned this year repeatedly has been we have to be ready. To adjust and adapt to changes and modifications and the way we do things and, in some cases, decisions that really come down to a very short amount of time that we have to be ready to adjust to.”

“So we’re certainly taking things day by day — probably hour by hour would be more accurate. We’ll just see how we progress and then as we find out more on our end, or if there are other things externally that we can’t control that, then we’ll deal with those as they come. That’s the way it’s been all year. I think our team and our players have done a good job of handling those adjustments, and we’ll continue to do that.”

But now, there are some other questions coming up. WR Julian Edelman was recently asked about a rumor that he told the Patriot front office that they need to pick up another pass catcher.

“Are you out of your mind?” Edelman said, laughing. “(I’ve never talked) to coach about a personnel decision or anything like that in my life here.”

“As a player you just sit and worry about things you can control and things you can do to help the team and you worry about the guys that you have in the locker room. That’s other people’s jobs in the organization. But I’m confident in what we’ve got and who we have, and there’s still a lot of football left here. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t be urgent any any means with how we play, practice and prepare, but that’s in someone else’s hands. I worry about what I’ve got to do as a player to come out and play my best football.”

He doesn’t seem like this kind of player. But regardless, it’s true in a way.

What do you think about what he had to say?
