Lakers Dealt With a Major Blow as Rajon Rondo Set to Test Free Agency

The Los Angeles Lakers won a championship after beating Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat. Every player on the Lakers roster had an incredible game throughout the season. Well, some of them will probably fly somewhere else. Rajon Rondo is one of the players set to enter free agency. Will the Lakers veteran point guard leave his team and sign with another franchise?

Chris Sheridan was the first to report on Rondo’s next move. According to Sheridan’s report, Rondo plans to opt-out of his player option. Rondo has yet to make a statement on this possibility.

If Rondo becomes a free agent, he will attract the attention of many NBA teams. The two-time champion has some insane skills and experience. His leadership can easily fit in another roster. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Rondo will give up on his team. Maybe he will re-sign with the Lakers.

Rajon Rondo to leave LA in free agency

Rondo dropped a big hint on ESPN’s First Take, suggesting that his future may be in no way related to the purple and gold.

“I’m definitely going to entertain it,” Rondo said. “Obviously, always thinking about running it back with a great group of guys and coaching staff. I can’t thank those guys enough for giving me a shot the last couple of years. It’s been amazing playing for this organization.

My agent and I will sit down and talk, but right now, I’m just kind of enjoying the moment, continuing to ride this high out. I don’t want to think about free agency right now; I’ve got a couple of months to do that as well. Right now, I’m going to enjoy the time with my family, friends, take a lot of great vacations and keep enjoying life.”

Rondo was of great help for the Lakers in the past two years. Losing him would be a big blow for the team. Rondo is 34, and he was an excellent floor general for the team. When Rondo is on the floor, LeBron James has a chance to take a more aggressive approach on the offensive side of the ball.
