LeBron James Once Had a Former NBA Coach Request To Talk To Him Half-Naked

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has played under many coaches in his NBA career. The Cleveland Cavaliers selected him in the 2003 NBA draft, and Paul Silas coached the talented rookie. Brendan Malone was next on the list and Mike Brown stepped in as LeBron’s coach from 2005-05 to 2009-10. Well, one particular coach had an awkward request for a meeting. The man was half-naked. Can you imagine the great LeBron James being called for a meeting with a half-naked coach?

LeBron left the Cavs to join the Miami Heat and played under Erik Spoelstra for four years. The king returned to Cleveland on time for the 2014-15 season. David Blatt and Tyronn Lue were coaching the four-time NBA champion. In his two years with the Lakers, LeBron had Luke Walton and Frank Vogel.

Let’s go back in time. When LeBron returned to the Cavs in 2014-15, Blatt was the first coach to meet him. He is the coach who made the awkward request.

LeBron James talked to a half-naked coach in Cleveland

A 2016 article from GQ reveals that more details of this story. Jason Lloyd reported in the Akron Beacon Journal that Blatt called LeBron to his office following a win over the Toronto Raptors. He was wearing a towel. That’s all.

LeBron told Blatt that he couldn’t talk to him like that, but the conversation actually happened. After they talked in Blatt’s office, LeBron told Tristan Thompson that the coach “was naked.”

We are used to hearing about players who walk around half-naked. This time it was the coach.

It’s interesting to note that Blatt no longer coached the Lakers superstar following the encounter.

Cavs won the game against Toronto on Jan.4, 2016, and the team fired Blatt on Jan. 22. The franchise had a 30-11 record, went 53-29, and made the NBA Finals under Blatt.

Firing Blatt was a good move as Lue took the team to the Finals, and players won the series. They overcame a 3-1 deficit and won the championship. It was the first championship for the team. Lue coached the Cavs through the 2017-18 and into 2018-19. They made two more Finals appearances under Lue.
