Patriots Advised To Bring Back Former All-Pro WR

The New England Patriots could definitely use some extra help with their receiving unit. This is probably the biggest issue NFL teams deal with at the moment. Is the situation too serious? Will the Patriots consider bringing a former WR back on the roster?

Ken Laird from WEEI believes that the Patriots should definitely give Antonio Brown a chance. Laird was covering Brown when he was playing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He said if Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and his team are “serious about this season” they should definitely bring Brown back in New England.

Well, this would be a rather serious situation. New England signed Brown after the Oakland Raiders released him. He saw action in one game and made four receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown. New England released him 11 days later after the wide receiver was accused of sexual assault.

Brown had an assault case and he plead no contest and was given two years probation. The NFL suspended Brown for the first eight weeks of the season. He will be able to return and some analysts have linked him to the Seattle Seahawks. Laird would love to add the Patriots in the quotation.

The Patriots should bring back the former WR

According to Laird, the Patriots should be all-in when it comes to adding Brown.

“The Patriots are penny pinchers? Twenty-six million dollars under the cap? Bob, what gives? Well, I’ve got one surefire way to convince the fan base that New England is yet again in it to win it: Re-sign Antonio Brown when his eight-game suspension lifts in two weeks. Radical? Yes. But desperate times do call for desperate measures, and a 2-3 record for the Pats in October is alarm-sounding time.”

New England plays with Julian Edelman, N’Keal Harry, Damiere Byrd, and Jakobi Myers. Edelman is aging and he is plagued with injuries. Harry didn’t give the Patriots what they needed from him. Devin Asiasi is almost nowhere to be seen, and the same applies to Dalton Keene.

Truth is, the Patriots really need more help on the field. The Patriots should definitely take into consideration the fact that Brown comes packed with behavioral issues.

But, signing Brown is a low-risk, high-reward move for New England. To get A.J. Green, Julio Jones, Will Fuller, John Ross, and other available receivers would force the Patriots to get rid of some draft assets.
