Patriots Players Learned Tough Lesson About NFL, NFLPA In Difficult Week

Patriots players now realized that the NFLPA does not care about player safety. The New England Patriots are still taking things day by day. It all started when quarterback Cam Newton test positive for COVID-19 a few weeks back. This caused the Patriots-Kansas City Chiefs game to be postponed for one day while they awaited the tests from the other players. At the time, no one else had tested positive. They were able to go ahead with the game.

Head coach Bill Belichick recently talked about what the team was doing in order to move on and stay focused. He basically just admitted that they were taking things day by day.

“Today’s an important day in our preparation for the Broncos,” Belichick said. “We’ve had several days now of virtual meetings between the staff members and from the staff to the players. We’ve been able to cover a lot of things, but we haven’t spent any time together, so today’s our opportunity to do that. We look forward to that. One thing that we’ve learned this year repeatedly has been we have to be ready to adjust. Adapt to changes and modifications and the way we do things and, in some cases, decisions that really come down to a very short amount of time that we have to be ready to adjust to.”

“So we’re certainly taking things day by day — probably hour by hour would be more accurate. We’ll just see how we progress and then as we find out more on our end, or if there are other things externally that we can’t control that, then we’ll deal with those as they come. That’s the way it’s been all year. I think our team and our players have done a good job of handling those adjustments, and we’ll continue to do that.”

But now, some Patriots players learned a tough lesson on the NFLPA this week. Jason McCourty talked about the NFLPA.

“If you get a chance to talk to the NFL or the NFLPA, we would greatly appreciate you bringing up that point and letting them know,” Patriots cornerback and defensive captain Jason McCourty said Saturday. “That’s something we talk about, and we’re dealing with it, and we’re moving forward. It’s obviously in the back of our minds, and I think that’s why we’re trying to do everything we can.”

“The same way you guys are sitting there thinking about it like, ‘Hey, they’re getting on a plane on Monday. Well, those days don’t really add up from the incubation period.’ (Those) were the same questions we were asking our union before we headed out there,” McCourty said. “But you guys saw, we took off, and we played in the game, and we came back. So as players, we’re trying to control what we can control, and at the same time — especially me, and I know Dev (Devin McCourty) and Slate (Matthew Slater) as older guys — we’re trying to continue to push the envelope to hold everybody accountable and make sure that they have our best interest in mind.”
