Patriots Pushed to Pursue Blockbuster Trade for Pro-Bowl Tight End

The New England Patriots could definitely use some help with their passing game. Maybe they should give up on some players to get the right help. Patriots may get a talented tight end.

Cody Benjamin from CBS Sports reported that the Patriots really need to add weapons to their passing game. He also recognized the problems Philadelphia has with the offensive line. According to him, the Patriots should send Joe Thuney to Philadelphia and get tight end Zach Ertz.

The tight end is out 3-4 weeks due to an ankle injury. Any potential move will have to wait. We don’t really know if the Patriots are interested in waiting for too long. Their passing game needs an instant boost.

Patriots need a strong tight end

Philadelphia deals with a lot bigger problem right now. Quarterback Carson Wentzh has been under duress most of the year. The Eagles are 1-4-1 in the NFC East. They are still looking for potential solutions.

Thuney is a versatile player with a great skill set. He is a nice fit for pretty much every NFL team.

“A rare player-for-player swap, and boy, is it a juicy one! Here’s the deal: The Eagles and Patriots love to trade with each other,” Benjamin reported. “The Eagles have all the reason in the world to thank Ertz for his years of great work and then bid him farewell, what with Dallas Goedert in town and Ertz both a.) off to an uncharacteristically ugly start in 2020 and b.) seeking a big-money extension. The Patriots, meanwhile, could desperately use that Rob Gronkowski replacement they’ve failed to unearth, and have already passed the deadline to get a long-term deal done with Thuney, who’s on the franchise tag and has reportedly been dangled before.

“Ertz’s recent ankle injury complicates this, but assuming he’s good to go in three or four weeks, that’s right around when the Pats would need him for their final AFC East push. Thuney, meanwhile, is a plug-and-play upgrade at pretty much any interior spot on the O-line, where the Eagles have been totally ravaged by injuries but must keep Carson Wentz upright. Philly would then have multiple options after the season: Extend Thuney, who’s only 27, as a long-term guard or even Jason Kelce successor; or let him walk, free up major 2021 cap space and collect the inevitable compensatory pick.”

This is a BOLD one, but CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin suggested the Patriots trade Joe Thuney to the Eagles for Zach Ertz, straight up. New England risks a lot

Will the Patriots lose too much by giving up on Thuney? Philadelphia can afford to lose Ertz. He is ready to get a bigger role.

New England’s offense struggled in Week 6, and analysts are worried. Players didn’t practice enough and it shows. Let’s see how will head coach Bill Belichick and his team handle this.
