Patriots to Start Sixth Different Offensive Line This Week As Injuries Mount

The New England Patriots could start their sixth different offensive line man as their injuries continue to pile up. Bill Belichick and the Patriots continue to struggle with getting back on track. For the first couple of season, they were very impressive with what they were doing. So much, in fact, that we were talking about signing Cam Newton to a long term deal.

Since the positive COVID tests, however, the Patriots have taken a big step back. They are now 2-4 and not looking very good as a team. Belichick talked about how they were getting back on track recently.

“Today’s an important day in our preparation for the Broncos,” Belichick said. “We’ve had several days now of virtual meetings between the staff members and from the staff to the players. We’ve been able to cover a lot of things, but we haven’t spent any time together, so today’s our opportunity to do that. We look forward to that. One thing that we’ve learned this year repeatedly has been we have to be ready to adjust and adapt to changes and modifications and the way we do things and, in some cases, decisions that really come down to a very short amount of time that we have to be ready to adjust to.

“So we’re certainly taking things day by day — probably hour by hour would be more accurate. We’ll just see how we progress and then as we find out more on our end, or if there are other things externally that we can’t control that, then we’ll deal with those as they come. That’s the way it’s been all year. I think our team and our players have done a good job of handling those adjustments, and we’ll continue to do that.”

There are several problems though. The New England Patriots have brought out five starting offensive line combinations in only 6 games this season. They could give a chance to a sixth this Sunday if Joe Thuney’s ankle injury forced the hand.

Luckily, it doesn’t sound like too serious of an injury.

“Unfortunately, that’s just part of this business,” Andrews said Wednesday. “Guys are going to get hurt, and it’s something we’ve kind of dealt with pretty much it feels like every year of my career at some point.”

“We’ve got a great group of guys. We’ve just got to try to get everyone out there when they can, and whoever gets their shot has got to take advantage of it.”

Well, at least they are ready for it. What do you think of this?
