Report: Patriots Decide On Starting QB If Cam Newton Can’t Play

Veteran quarterback Cam Newton’s COVID-19 test returned positive and he didn’t join his teammates in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead stadium. The New England Patriots found out about the test right before the game and had to create a backup plan for the Week 4 game. It was a loss for the Patriots, but they did have great luck in the first half of the game. New England is getting ready for the Denver Broncos. It’s a home game and the Patriots will have to make a decision regarding their starting QB.

Right after Newton’s positive COVID-19 test, the NFL moved the game from Sunday afternoon to Monday night. Will Newton suit up for their home game in Week 5?

Newton hasn’t developed any symptoms over the past weeks. However, he has to get several negative tests to join his team. There’s no room for mistakes and New England is working on a backup plan.

Patriots to use Stidham as starting QB

NFL insider Jason La Canfora reported that the Patriots will probably put second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham under center if Newton doesn’t play. The 2015 NFL MVP has taken part in recent zoom meetings.

Head coach Bill Belichick used Brian Hoyer as a starter but his performance wasn’t really great and he finished the first half with a terrible play. The Patriots head coach benched Hoyer and put Stidham under center.

The second-year quarterback threw two interceptions, but Pats players had better performance when Stidham was leading the offense. Everything points to the fact that he will start games if Newton doesn’t play.

The Week 5 game was moved from Sunday afternoon to Monday night. Denver is coming to New England and Patriots players will have a chance to take a lead. They are 2-2 at this point of the season and NFL analysts agree that New England has a good game. Will players return to the field with a better offense? Will the defense have more luck against the Broncos? The only thing we can do is wait for Monday’s match.
