Report: Patriots Place Second Player On Reserve / COVID List

The New England Patriots are taking things to a safer level. The team made the necessary changes in order to prevent any further damage. Veteran quarterback Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19 and missed the Week 4 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Newton is asymptomatic and he can join the team for practice as early as Thursday. Of course, he has to get two negative tests first. The team doctors should also clear him. But this is not the only problem New England has right now. The Patriots placed another player on the reserve list.

Field Yates from ESPN reported that Bill Murray has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. NFL teams can put players on this list if they have been in contact to someone whose tests returned positive. These players don’t necessarily have to test positive themselves.

Patriots put the first-year player on their reserve list for a reason

Murray has yet to play a game for the Patriots this season. Tom E. Curran from NBC Sports Boston reported that Murray didn’t travel with his team to Kansas City.

This happened right after Cam Newton’s tests returned positive. New England played against the Chiefs on Monday night. Their Week 4 game was scheduled for Sunday, but Newton’s positive test rescheduled the game Monday.

Newton is the only member of the Patriots family to test positive for coronavirus. Hopefully, they will be able to stay healthy and safe in order to move on with their games without any major loss. New England lost too many played due to the coronavirus pandemic as some of them decided to opt-out of the regular season. Losing some of the talented veterans would put an end to the Patriots season.

The Patriots lost the game to the Chiefs, and they are on to the Denver Broncos. Will Newton go under center? Head coach Bill Belichick used veteran journeyman Brian Hoyer as a starter in Week 4. However, he benched Hoyer and put Jarrett Stidham on the field. The second-year quarterback used the chance and hit a touchdown pass to wideout N’Keal Harry.
