Report: Two Lakers Veterans Likely to Opt Into Contracts Next Season

The Los Angeles Lakers won the 2020 NBA Championship and this is when all the begins. The Lakers won the Larry O’Brien trophy with the help of many veterans. LeBron James led the team, and he received a lot of help from his teammates, including Anthony Davis. Well, it may not be all fun and games for the team after all. Several players may opt out of their player option with the team. JaVale McGee and Avery Bradley are not on this list. Lakers players will definitely work on their contracts.

According to most recent reports, the veterans will probably stay with the team in the upcoming season.

“Bradley and McGee are probably opting-in, whether the Lakers want them to or not,” wrote Sam Quinn. “Bradley’s bubble absence and McGee’s bubble irrelevance makes it highly unlikely that either would get a raise on the market. Their returns take us down to around $15 million to work with. Cook is not guaranteed, but keeping him around as trade fodder makes more sense than eating $1 million in dead salary. Caldwell-Pope and Rondo are reportedly opting out, and both have earned raises. This is where things get tricky.”

Lakers contracts are wrapped in mystery

Both players had pivotal roles for the team this past season. Bradley is still brilliant in both ends of the ball, and McGee is a real force in the paint. But, they didn’t have too much success in the playoffs. Bradley opted out of the season resumption and didn’t join his teammates in Orlando. He did this due to coronavirus concerns. McGee fell out of the rotation by the end of the postseason.

The Los Angeles Lakers will see a lot of changes this offseason. They will try to remain a contender. To do this, the team needs its veterans. Things would be really great if McGee and Bradley stay in LA. Anthony Davis is set to become a free agent, but most reports suggest that he will keep wearing his purple and gold. Davis won his first ring this season and he will probably want more of that. Maybe LeBron and the Lakers front office will make him stay in LA for a long time.
