Rob Pelinka Destroys Critics Placing an Asterisk on Lakers’ Championship

Lakers Vice President Rob Pelinka has destroyed critics that are placing an asterisk on the Lakers championship. The Los Angeles Lakers are NBA champions and no one can deny that. With that being said, it was definitely a crazy year. With all of the COVID stuff it was a miracle that the season was able to be finished at all.

The bubble format was definitely interesting and effective. It worked as no one got sick with COVID after the first week. But it was also a struggle. The players who were there the longest had to be there for a good part of 4 months. LeBron talked about the struggle.

“I am here for one reason and one reason only, and that’s to compete for a championship,” James said. “That was my mindset once I entered the bubble, once I entered the quarantine process the first two days. And then right from my first practice my mindset was to, if I’m going to be here, make the most of it and see what you can do and lock in on what the main thing is. And the main thing was for us to finish the season and compete for a championship.”

“So that’s just been my mindset throughout these — I don’t even know how many days it is, whatever how many days it is, it feels like five years so it really doesn’t matter. I’ve been as locked in as I’ve ever been in my career.”

There are some people, however, that think there should be a star by the Lakers championship. Take a look at what VP Rob Pelinka had to say to these people.

“I spend a lot of time kind of thinking through what lens you’re viewing things through and for me, this one is ‘let’s count the blessings instead of the losses.’ Like it’s easy to think about ‘oh, we didn’t get to have a parade, or we didn’t get to do this yet,’” Pelinka said. “But to be able to have won a championship inside a bubble, and to be with the guys and the staff for 100 days in a row, also provided some extraordinary moments that probably future champions will never be able to experience because it was such a unique setting.”

“I think some have (asked) ‘will this championship have an asterisk on it?’ I like to say ‘no, I think it’s got a gold star.’ Just because you had to do so much more to get to the end, and I think it was just a testament to our team (and) the players and our staff coming together in that environment.”
