Watch: Phil Handy Drops a Major Hint About His Future With the Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers won the 2020 NBA Championship with the help of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the rest of the players on the roster. Lakers players are champions, and NBA guys have already started spreading rumors. One of the rumor suggests that assistant coach Phil Handy won’t have a future with the Lakers.

Well, Handy is here to blast the rumors. He talked to San Francisco sportcaster Jason Dumas about the rumors that link him to the Brooklyn Nets.

Phil Handy is pretty serious about his future with the Lakers

What does Handy say about this? This man is a Laker. Simple as that.

“Hey man, I am a Los Angeles Laker,” Handy said. “What’s next for me is to wait for Frank Vogel to pick up the phone and text me and call me and give me what my next directives are. I’m just gonna sit back and try to enjoy this championship that we earned and decompress a little bit.

“I think we worked so hard that people think that we never take time off and I myself have had to learn how to decompress and step away from the game to where I can stay mentally and physically sharp. So I’m gonna enjoy this time with my friends and my family and I’ll be ready for whatever direction Coach Vogel has for me next as we prepare for this next upcoming season.”

Handy has an excellent track record in the past five years. He has been part of three title-winning teams.

In the 2015-16 season, Handy was an assistant coach with LeBron’s Cleveland Cavaliers. He helped the team overcome a big deficit and defeat the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.

Handy left the Cavs in 2018 and joined the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors won the title in six games.

It was great success for the Oakland native, and now he is in his second stint with the Lakers. Handy was a player development coach for the Lakers from 2011 to 2013.

Handy and the Lakers will have plenty of time to rest and relax. It was a wild season, and players finished it inside a bubble.

The Lakers face a big challenge now as many players are set to opt out of their player option.
