Bill Belichick Provides Injury Update on RB Sony Michel

The New England Patriots provided an update on running back Sony Michel and his condition. New England won two straight games, and having Michel back on the field would be of great help for the team. Head coach Bill Belichick shared details on Michel’s return, but he didn’t provide more info on his role with the team.

We have seen Belichick reshuffling his running backs. He would eagerly replace the RB1 if that seems like the right thing for the team. But, we can’t really imagine Michel making a dent in Damien Harris’ minutes. Former Alabama running back has been playing really well since Belichick gave him a bigger role in the Patriots offense.

The promising update on Sony Michel may not mean a thing

Harris hit 100 yards in his first game of the regular season. It happened in the Patriots’ Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Harris hit this mark in three different games, including Sunday’s 23-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore came packed with a strong defense, but Harris broke it. Harris stands at 471 yards in six games for the Patriots.

What about Rex Burkhead? He hit three touchdowns in the last couple of games. James White has a good role, too. Belichick uses him as a powerful weapon. In other words, there isn’t too much playing time for Michel. He fits best in Harris’ role at the moment. He has joined his teammates for practice, and coach Belichick decided to wait and see what happens with the former Georgia power.

When asked if Michel will be activated off injured reserve this week, Belichick said, “Sony’s been working hard. He’s practiced the last two weeks, so we’ll see how things go this week.”

Michel sustained a quad injury. This injury has been bugging him since early in the year. In three games, Michel has 26 rushes for 173 yards, and this is good for a career-best 6.7 yards per carry.

The Patriots will play against the Houston Texans on Sunday, and it’s an easy game to win. New England can really hit .500, and fans are more than happy about it.
