Cam Newton Provides Update on Neck Injury After Taking Huge Hit In Patriots’ Win Over Jets

The New England Patriots defeated the New York Jets and pretty much every player on the Patriots roster was brilliant. Well, some of the players had to pay a nice price for their success. Veteran quarterback Cam Newton suffered a neck injury on his way to the top.

The 2015 NFL MVP had to regain his throne and he did “sacrificed” his neck in the process.

In the second quarter of the Patriots 30-27 win over the Jets, Newton received a big hit from safety Ashtyn Davis. His head whipped backward. Literally.

Newton didn’t miss any time and he had one of the best games of the season. He did have trouble turning his head Tuesday morning.

“My neck is only working on a degree angle that shuts off the degrees to one side,” Newton said during his weekly appearance on WEEI’s “Greg Hill Show.” “So my eye muscles are getting a lot of work in today.”

Newton should have paid more attention to tight end Ryan Izzo releasing Davis from the block. He is a pro, and took responsibility for the painful sack. Refs flagged Davis for roughing the passer on the play. According to replays, Davis made contact with Newton’s shoulder/chest, not his head.

“I told (offensive coordinator) Josh (McDaniels) on the sideline like, ‘Bro, that’s my fault, and I deserved it,’ ” Newton revealed. “But it got us 15 yards, though, so that’s just the price you’ve got to pay.”

The talented wideout was able to complete 27 of 35 passes for 274 yards in the glorious win. He added two rushing touchdowns and finished with zero turnovers. New England scored 13 points in the final 6:04 of the fourth quarter. This was more than enough to erase a 10-point Jets lead.

The Patriots are getting ready for the Baltimore Ravens. They will be able to use two newly acquired players in that game. Head coach Bill Belichick had great words for his new wideout. New England has a new defensive tackle in the locker room, too. Great news, huh?
