Danny Green Breaks Silence on Death Threats From LA Fans

Los Angeles Lakers veteran Danny Green missed a three-pointer in the final seconds of Game 5 in the NBA Finals. It was a terrible blow for the Lakers, and the team lost the chance to finish the Miami Heat in five games. LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the rest of the guys had to play another game. Someone took it personally and Danny Green received death threats.

Some fans took to social media to slam both Green and his fiance. There was too much anger and their messages were full of hate. A single missed shot caused too much harm.

The Lakers veteran opens up

Green went on ClutchPoints’ Battle for LA Podcast with Tomer Azarly and talked about the Lakers and their playoff run. The Laker also talked about his life inside the buble and the death threats.

“I don’t like to use the term dark time for me or dark place,” Green said. “I don’t like to look at things on a negative context or in a negative light I would always try to find the positive. But I do say is it was tough and it wasn’t easy. Being in LA some months previous to being in the bubble and being a part of the Lakers organization, I know what comes with it. I was used to the criticism and things like that. But when you’re the only sport playing at one point and everything is focused on you guys and basketball, everything is more magnified. So it’s tough man.

“It’s a tough situation, it was tough times and it wasn’t easy being in that area, being in the scenario. But now we’ve gotten used to it and adapted to it a little bit so if it happens again, obviously, we know how to operate in it. But hopefully, it doesn’t happen again.”

Danny Green has received death threats before

The veteran also played with the 2013 San Antonio Spurs that were up five points with 28 seconds left of Game 6 in the NBA Finals. The team lost the title-winning game and also lost Game 7. It was a terrible loss, and the team lost the series. Green was averaging 14 points per game while shooting 55.1 percent from beyond the arc, and knocking down a then-finals record 27 three-pointers.

Green has received death threats in the past, so he is used to it. Moreover, he doesn’t really pay attention to that. Green knows that these threats and all the cussing are part of the game.
