LeBron James Fan Corey Groves Died After His Only Wish Was Granted From His Hero

Corey Groves had a wish to meet Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James. It was the greatest wish he has ever had, and it came true almost a year ago. Corey and LeBron met in Los Angeles.

Corey battled an aggressive form of cancer in 2019. He lost the battle with cancer on Halloween and was just 17.

Doctors told the young Lakers fan from Ontario that he had one year to live. Corey had a big wish and the Children’s Wish Foundation made it happen. His greatest wish was to meet the king. Corey didn’t even want an autograph or a jersey. He just wanted to shake hands with LeBron. Corey arrived at the Staples Center and met LeBron at the Lakers’ walkthrough.

“As soon as I went into the arena my eyes locked on him, and he just looked directly in my direction,” Groves said after the exciting meeting. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I wanted it to be flawless.”

Corey Groves had a big wish

Corey’s aunt, Sherry took to Instagram to announce his death. LeBron was his hero, but Corey was actually the family hero everyone looked up to.

“Corey was a stand up boy, a scholar and a gentleman,” Sherry wrote. “He saw the good in everyone and the beauty in everything. He tackled life head on and refused to stop until his last breath, on Halloween 2020. His only wish was to shake the hand of his hero. Corey is and will always be our hero.”

Young Corey met a lot of people this past year. Meeting LeBron helped him meet a lot of great people. Sherry thanked those who gave Corey the chance to meet King James. Her nephew was never afraid to be himself. The world will miss him so much.

LeBron and his Lakers teammates have met with so many kids in the past years. He is really grateful for all the support his youngest fans provide. Meeting them or signing a jersey or a ball is the least he can do to make them smile. LeBron will always take care of his youngest fans.
