Los Angeles Lakers Confounded With What to do With Kyle Kuzma

The Los Angeles Lakers will have to make a decision regarding Kyle Kuzma and the other players on the roster. The team needs a third superstar, and Rob Pelinka will probably get it through a trade deal. This means that Kyle Kuzma, Danny Green, or other players will have to leave the team.

So, how will LA handle Kuzma’s situation?

Ian Begley from SNY reported that the Lakers have yet to make a decision on Kuzma. The young player is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He is set to earn $3.5 million. We all know that Kuzma hopes to get a big contract extension this season. LA may not be ready to provide that because Kuzma didn’t play his awesome basketball this past season. He hurt his value.

Lakers to trade Kyle Kuzma?

The Lakers plan to get another superstar behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis. One of the potential scenarios involves trading Kuzma and Green for DeMar DeRozan.

In 2017, the Lakers selected Kuzma in the first round. The then-rookie had the much-needed offensive skillset, offering 16.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.

Kuzma was at his best in 2018-19. He was averaging 18.7 points and 2.5 assists per game. In 2019-20, Kuzma had a bench role and was the sixth man on the team. The young Laker recorded career-lows in points, rebounds, and assists per game. He was averaging 12.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.

NBA analysts believe that the Lakers won’t give Kuzma a long-term deal this offseason. They may also hold onto the young talent or trade him for a superstar. Detroit is a potential destination for Kuzma as the Pistons have shown interest in the Lakers forward. They have already thought of getting him, but giving up on DeRozan was too much. This season is different. The Pistons will rebuild the roster and they need young dominance. Kuzma has that and much more.

Let’s see how will the Lakers finish the offseason. They have so much to do, and Kuzma is probably waiting for the final move. Is he on his way out of LA?
