Magic Johnson Had Strong Reaction on Lakers Signing Marc Gasol

The Los Angeles Lakers made a move to get veteran center Marc Gasol, and the entire NBA went on fire. This signing attracted the attention of most experts, and former Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson shared his thoughts on it.

The Hall of Famer took to his Twitter account to express his excitement. According to Johnson, the Lakers have packed the roster with talent, and they definitely have a chance to win back-to-back titles.

Lakers get Marc Gasol for the win

LA has the shortest offseason in team history, and General Manager Rob Pelinka had to act fast. The 2020-21 Lakers roster looks pretty fine at the moment, and Johnson is pretty positive about it.

Johnson believes that the signing of Gasol marks “a full circle” in his basketball career. The 35-year-old returns to the franchise that selected him with the 48th pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.

The Lakers traded the Spanish native to the Memphis Grizzlies in order to get his brother Pau. He built legacy in Tennessee. Gasol played with Mike Conley and Tony Allen for a few seasons.

Gasol’s Grizzlies made the postseason on several straight occasions. The squad had a really great performance in the 2012-13 NBA playoffs. Memphis made the Western Conference Finals and lost to the San Antonio Spurs. Gasol became the Defensive Player of the Year thanks to his incredible performance.

The veteran put an end to his stint with the Grizzlies in February of 2019. The Grizzlies traded him to the Toronto Raptors in order to get C.J. Miles, Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, and a 2024 second-round draft pick.

Gasol became a valuable contributor to the Raptors and he had a big role in the postseason in the 2019 NBA Playoffs. Toronto won the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors in six games. Gasol moved on to the Lakers and he is expected to have a big role on the roster. Playing with LeBron James and Anthony Davis seems like the perfect scenario for Gasol.

Magic Johnson approves the signing, and that’s more than encouraging for the Purple and Gold. LA has a chance to win the 18th title in team history.
