The Los Angeles Lakers will use this free agency to make a few important decisions. This includes a potential contract for one of the best players on the Lakers roster. Anthony Davis has yet to make a move on his future contract with the Lakers. Will he even stay with the Lakers?
The NBA champion is set to earn a lot of money this offseason, regardless of his final destination. Pretty much every NBA team would love to get Davis. He had great success on the floor and has an ability to develop an instant chemistry with his teammates.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN, Davis is on his way to re-sign with the Lakers. Of course, he won’t sign a deal right after the beginning of free agency.
Anthony Davis to re-sign with the Lakers
Davis will need some time to determine the best contract for himself. How will he restructure his contract with the Lakers? Wojnarowski believes that Davis will sign a deal that will allow him to enter the open market following the 2021-22 season. Let’s not forget that LeBron James’ deal expires that offseason.
The Lakers big man was averaging 26.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. The franchise traded most of the young talents to get Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans. Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, and Brandon Ingram had to leave the team. They couldn’t develop a relationship with LeBron in his debut season with the Lakers. The young talents had to go, but it was the best decision the front office made. Davis was the right player to join LeBron. They did wonders on the basketball court, and this incredible friendship helped the Lakers win the 17th title in team history.
Hopefully, Davis will sign a deal with the Lakers. His size and skills will be of great help for the team. He won his first ring with the team. Winning a title feels great, and he will probably want to have the same success in 2020-21. Let’s see what happens in the next few weeks.
