NBA Insider Reveals What Made LeBron James Change His Mind Over Start of Next Season

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers finished the 2019-20 season with a win. The king won his fourth ring, and he sure deserves a good rest. Well, the NBA has made a decision, and teams will have to return to the floor on Christmas Day. This is the shortest offseason the NBA has ever had, and LeBron didn’t like it at all. That was his initial reaction. The great LeBron James changed his mind, and he will now support the Dec. 22 start of the season.

Wonder why? Brian Windhorst has a few ideas. Windhorst, Bobby Marks, and Tim MacMahon talked about the early season start on Windhorst’s podcast.

The ESPN Insiders also discussed LeBron’s attitude towards the current situation.

“It’s good news and bad news,” Windhorst said. “I guess we should all be celebrating as NBA fans that the players agreed to do it Christmas week. You see a lot of players out there on social media getting excited about it and celebrating it. But they only really half agreed to what the hope was they would agree to [Thursday]. They’re not going to agree to the financial arrangement just yet. That’s maybe not a big deal; maybe they go back into negotiations and finish that. But in talking to some people around the call, they were a little bit surprised.

“There was a group of star players on the call that kind of pushed back on this and didn’t think this was a good enough deal. LeBron James was not one of them. LeBron has moved his position on this, from what I am told. He is going to support the December 22nd start because he knows it’s important for NBA business. But there’s some guys who want to push a little bit more on financials.”

LeBron James prepares for the start of the season

If the NBA postpones the start date, it will lose half a billion dollars. NBA players will also have to lose some of the money in order to compensate. Yes, NBA officials agreed on an early start date in order to protect their finances.

Where does this leave LeBron? Will he be cherry-picking games in the first half of the regular season? That’s what he said in his convo with former US President Barack Obama. Lakers head coach Frank Vogel and LeBron will have to discuss the superstar’s load management.

We are more than convinced about LeBron’s willingness to win another ring. Winning championships feels great and he will definitely try to repeat the whole thing. Hopefully, he will do that with the help of Anthony Davis. The Lakers are expected to add another superstar to their roster,
