Patriots Asking Price For Stephon Gilmore Revealed

The New England Patriots may trade veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore and get another player. Or players. The situation looks pretty clear, and any NFL team can get Gilmore. Of course, they will have to pay a lot to get the veteran. The Patriots have put a big price on Gilmore.

ESPN’s Diana Russini reported that if a NFL team wants to trade for Gilmore, they will have to offer a 1st-rounder and a player. NESN’s Adam London wrote on the same topic.

“Stephon Gilmore has been a popular topic of conversation ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline. With New England conceivably heading toward a rebuild, it theoretically could look to maximize on Gilmore’s trade value, especially considering the star cornerback has another year on his contract beyond the current campaign. A report last week indicated the Patriots likely would have to settle for a second- or third-round pick in exchange for Gilmore. But according to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, New England is looking for a first-rounder and more in a potential deal for the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.”

It’s a big price, but Gilmore is under contract through next season. He is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and the Jacksonville Jaguars fetched two first-rounders for Jalen Ramsey in 2019.

Patriots to keep the same price for Gilmore in 2021

New England doesn’t have to get rid of Gilmore at this point. The team may move him before the 2021 season. In other words, there’s still a chance to complete a deal in the offseason. If the Patriots can get a NFL team to meet their asking price this season, it will definitely be a win-win situation.

Gilmore is an elite cornerback. New England has a solid depth at corner. JC Jackson is here, remember? Jonathan Jones and other players are ready to step up. Veteran Jason McCourty, rookie Myles Bryant and practice squad player D’Angelo Ross will have a big role on the field.

Some analysts have linked the Patriots to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bill Belichick and his team may send Gilmore to the Steelers for a 2021 first-rounder and wide receiver James Washington. If Gilmore ends with the Chicago Bears, New England may get a first-rounder and veteran tight end Jimmy Graham.
