Patriots React to Rex Burkhead Serious Knee Injury Losing Running Back

New England Patriots suffered a terrible loss to the Houston Texans. As if this wasn’t enough, running back Rex Burkhead suffered a terrible knee injury. This injury pushed him out of the field.

In the third quarter of the 27-20 loss, cornerback Bradley Roby hit Burkhead in the knee. The running back was carted to the Patriots locker room and the Patriots ruled him out for the game.

NFL experts believe that Burkhead suffered a torn ACL. Jeff Howe from The Athletic reported on this possibility.

“I’m hurt for him,” James White told reporters in his postgame video conference. “I’m still hurting for him. (He’s) a good friend of mine — not just a teammate, but a guy I call my friend. To see him go down like that is never good. He was having a great year, as well, making huge plays for us. It’s just tough, man. You just hate to see it.”

Rex Burkhead to recover from a serious knee injury

White couldn’t hide his tears. Burkhead arrived in New England before the 2017 season. He was in the middle of a successful season. The running back could easily hit career highs in rushing yards (267 through nine games entering Sunday), receiving yards (187) and total touchdowns (six). NFL analysts agree that Burkhead is the most versatile running back and key contributor for the Patriots.

Veteran quarterback Cam Newton says Burkhead is a warrior. He is more than convinced that the running back will return stronger. Patriots players will miss Burkhead’s presence.

“Knowing how great of a teammate he is, knowing how great of a leader he is, knowing what he brings to this team,” Newton said. “But he’s a warrior, and I know he’ll be back stronger. His influence will be missed.”

Burkhead has sustained foot, neck, ribs and knee injuries in his first three years with the Patriots. He has missed some games, but he was really durable this season. The Patriots hadn’t added him to the injury report this season.

You never want to lose your brother or your teammate,” receiver Damiere Byrd said. “Obviously, Rex has been great for us throughout the season, and it was very tough to see him go down. We’re praying for him and hoping that he makes a speedy recovery and that the injury isn’t too bad.”

White believes that Burkhead’s injury is pretty serious. New England ruled him out a few minutes after he left the field. White was watching Burkhead lie on the field for too long. It was more than obvious that he was aching.
