Report: Lakers’ DeMarcus Cousins May Miss The Season Opener

DeMarcus Cousins missed his chance to join the Los Angeles Lakers last season. His season ended before it even started due to an awful injury. The veteran player won’t join the Lakers or other team in the near future as confirmed by recent reports.

Austin Kent of Slam reported that Cousins will probably miss the season opener in December.

“DeMarcus Cousins continues to recover from the left knee injury that cost him his 2019-20 campaign and may not be ready to play on an opening day roster next month,” Kent wrote. “There haven’t been any specific setbacks, Cousins’ agent Jeff Schwartz tells SLAM, but the former All-Star is intent on returning at full strength and in a situation that’s going to be a good fit for him.”

DeMarcus Cousins to miss some time of the regular season

The 30-year-old inked a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers last summer. Cousins suffered a terrible ACL injury in August 2019 and had to sit out the entire season. The superstar joined the Lakers to win a title, but it didn’t happen and Cousins missed a valuable time with his new team.

Later in the regular season, LA released the All-Star to sign Markieff Morris. The team won the 2019-20 NBA championship in the Orlando bubble.

Cousins has yet to find a home in the NBA. The veteran has career averages of 21.2 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game.  Cousins is still one of the best centers in the NBA. He has to play his best to get a good deal in free agency.

NBA teams are usually worried about injured veterans, but Cousins’ talent and experience may be of great help for the Lakers or any other franchise. He has so much to offer, and his numbers look pretty well at this point. He would surely add more to that had he played with the Lakers in 2020-21. It didn’t happen and Cousins missed a chance to win a ring. Hopefully, he will get one this season. He will have to sign a contract first. Rings don’t fall from the sky, right?
