Report: Patriots Highly-Touted Rookie Nears Return

The New England Patriots can really use some help at tight end this season. There’s no room for despair as one Patriots rookie will soon return. Having the talented rookie back at the position seems like the perfect scenario right now.

Devin Asiasi made no impact this season. However, he may soon get a chance to show his real talent.

The Patriots placed Asiasi on injured reserve but he joined his team for practice on Wednesday. This is great news for all the fans out there. Some even made a prediction on his return date. The rookie may suit up for the game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Talented Patriots rookie to return to the field

Tight end Ryan Izzo is the only constant player at this position. He has made great efforts, but the team decided to draft two tight ends after watching Izzo and Matt LaCosse play in 2019.

Asiasi and Dalton Keene have spent a lot of time on injured reserve. Maybe Asiasi will soon see some action.

New England has yet to activate or add Asiasi to the active roster. He is eligible to play Sunday. The team could definitely use him on the field. Head coach Bill Belichick played newly signed players with Izzo whenever they needed to have multiple tight ends. Sometimes they turned to offensive linemen in the max-protection looks.

The team signed Jordan Thomas two weeks ago. They can’t really expect too much from him at this point.

Asiasi may not start on Sunday. Belichick doesn’t like throwing players into the fire right after returning from injury. Using a rookie who hasn’t seen much action? I don’t think so. Maybe the Patriots will put Asiasi on the field for 10 snaps. Maybe he will be able to get a couple of targets.

The rookie had a hard time catching up with the rest of the offense. In the first six games, he didn’t catch any passes. New England has had great success with tight ends in the past. Asiasi will have to work really hard to live up to the expectations.
