Report: Potential Trade Suitor Emerges for Young Lakers Star

The Los Angeles Lakers will try to get another star on the roster to give LeBron James and Anthony Davis extra help in the season. Acquiring a big name through a trade seems like a realistic scenario. This means that some of the current Lakers players will have to go. One particular player is on the top of the list. The Lakers have been linked with several players, including DeMar DeRozan. If that trade goes down the hill, the Lakers may find other suitors. One trade suitor may be interested in a young Lakers star.

LegionHoops reported that the Detroit Pistons have shown interest in Kuzma. Is this trade really possible?

The trade may not happen, but the two teams can actually work out something. Several Detroit players are a good fit for the Los Angeles. The Lakers could use some of the talents Detroit has.

Detroit is a potential trade suitor for the Lakers

The Pistons may be the best trade partner for the Lakers if they want to get rid of Kuzma. Going back home seems like a good thing. Let’s not forget that the Lakers have shown interest in Derrick Rose in multiple occasions. Some said the Lakers wanted to trade for the veteran at last season’s trade deadline. Detroit wanted Kuzma but didn’t want to release Rose. Sean Deveney from Heavy reported on the trade. Rose will enter his contract year and the Pistons won’t contend for a title. They may trade to add Kuzma. He is young and talented after all.

Well, the Lakers may not give Kuzma a big deal. That’s what a former executive said.

“My projection sees Kuzma’s value escalating to a high of $6 million each of the next three seasons — only two of which are covered by extension — before the age curve starts bending against him. So a three-year, $17 million extension might be reasonable for the Lakers, but I can’t see any way Kuzma agrees to that.”

Kuzma lowered his value this past season. He lost some of the hype. If his prime stands at 12.8 points per game, Kuzma won’t get a big deal.
