Rex Burkhead Makes Statement on His NFL Future

The New England Patriots have several major problems to deal with at the moment. Head coach Bill Belichick has moved on to the Arizona Cardinals. New England entered Sunday’s game with a two-game winning streak. However, J.J. Watt and his teammates did their thing, and the Patriots returned home with a loss. This is not the only problem New England has right now. Running back Rex Burkhead suffered a season-ending injury during the game, and his future is hanging in the air.

The talented running back took to his Twitter to inform his fans that he will be out for the rest of the 2020 NFL season.

“Appreciate the support and all those who have reached out the past couple of days,” Burkhead tweeted. “Look forward to coming back better than ever in 2021.”

Burkhead received a bad shot in his knee early in the third quarter. He was carted to the locker room, and the Patriots ruled him out for the rest of the match. Coach Belichick said Monday that Burkhead didn’t return home with the rest of the team.

Rex Burkhead to make great future plans in 2021

New England lost another valuable player, and the situation looks more than awful. Damien Harris, James White, Sony Michel, and J.J. Taylor are the only option for the Patriots. Burkhead was a change-of-pace option, complementing both Harris and White.

Burkhead carried the ball 67 times for 274 yards with three rushing touchdowns. He also had 25 catches for 192 yards and three receiving touchdowns in ten touchdowns.

The Patriots may lose Burkhead in free agency in 2021. He took a pay cut to stay with the team this offseason. Losing Burkhead is a big blow for the Patriots and they will have to come up with a great backup plan. New England sits outside the playoff picture at the moment. Belichick and his team have to win the remaining six games in order to make the playoffs. Let’s see how will the Patriots finish the season. NFL analysts don’t have high hopes for the team right now.
