Wesley Matthews Pinpoints Championship Mindset In First Message To Lakers Fans

The Los Angeles Lakers signed a group of talented players, including Dennis Schroder, Marc Gasol, Montrezl Harrell, and a few others. The addition of Wesley Matthews was a big surprise for the team, and the former Milwaukee Bucks superstar has a message for his Lakers fans.

The Lakers front office re-signed Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Markieff Morris. The team lost Danny Green, but Matthews seems to be the right replacement for the team. He agreed to sign a one-year deal worth $3.6 million.

Matthews has a good season with the Bucks. He hit 36.1% of his threes and guarded the best perimeter players of opposite teams. In other words, he fits well into Green’s old role. Los Angeles got a talented veteran with great stats.

Wesley Matthews is excited about his game with the Lakers

In his first video conference with media members since his signing with the Lakers, Matthews delivered a bold message. He came to Los Angeles to win games, and there’s a really big change for him to do that.

“My message to Lakers fans is you’re going to get somebody who shows up every single night, ready to compete, ready to make life hell for whoever it is that I’m going up against,” Matthews said. “And someone that’s not going to quit, someone that’s not going to back down and someone that’s going to do everything in their power to make sure that an 18th banner gets raised.”

NBA experts agree that Matthews is a hard-nosed defender who doesn’t mind doing the dirty work. Lakers head coach Frank Vogel has a nice defensive scheme, and he will definitely find a way to use Matthews. The star is a great shooter and his performance will see a rapid increase once he hits the floor with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Green had a good season with the Lakers, but he missed some important shots, including the one in Game 5 of the 2020 NBA Finals. He worked well on relocating to the corners, but Matthews is a shot-up shooter. Fans can already see him standing in the weak-side corner ready to launch the ball.
