Bill Belichick Gives Cam Newton His Highest Praise Yet

Many would say that head coach Bill Belichick is pretty mad with veteran quarterback Cam Newton. Well, the legendary head coach has words of praise for his starting quarterback. Newton didn’t have his best numbers this year and he made some mistakes. But, even offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said that Newton did the impossible on the field. He couldn’t do any better than this. He did everything the Patriots ever asked from him.

Newton had some struggles under center, but Belichick supports his signal caller and even credits him for doing his job responsibly. Belichick is a man of few words, but he sure had some nice words for Newton.

“He works hard. Very professional. Puts in as much time and effort as anybody I’ve ever worked with, any player I’ve ever coached,” Belichick told reporters, via MassLive. “He’s dedicated and conscientious about his job.”

Bill Belichick praised Cam Newton for a reason

Newton has gone through a lot this season. His first year with the Patriots wasn’t that great. He had a nice start of the season, but his struggle with COVID-19 was just too much. Newton had some huge problems since his return. Getting into the lineup was too much for him.

In the last few weeks, the Patriots quarterback saw a significant decline in his numbers. Two of his games ended up with a win, but the terrible loss to the Los Angeles Rams didn’t sit well with some experts. Newton threw for 119 yards and an interception while hitting only 16 yards on the ground. The 2015 NFL MVP hasn’t thrown for over 199 yards since his 365-yard performance against the Houston Texans.

Newton’s practice habits were stronger than ever. He said, “My practice habits this year have been more intensified than any other time in my life. I’ve been playing this game since I was six, seven years old and I’ve never cared about practice as much as I’ve cared about practice since I’ve been in New England.”
