Bill Belichick Has A Telling Comment On Quarterback Jarrett Stidham

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick benched veteran quarterback Cam Newton in the terrible loss to the Buffalo Bills. Bill Belichick decided to change quarterbacks but didn’t make any comments on Newton or second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham. It’s a tricky situation, and Belichick has to make a decision in the upcoming offseason.

“Game was over about 10, 15 minutes ago,” Belichick said. “Haven’t made any plans for next week obviously being it’s 15 minutes old.”

Newton had struggles throughout the entire season, But Belichick decided to keep him under center. New England enters Week 17 with nothing to worry about. The team is already out of the playoffs and winning the game against the New York Jets is not that important at this point.

Bill Belichick to give Jarrett Stidham a chance

Newton began the game against Buffalo and completed 5 of his 10 attempts for 34 yards. One of his incompletions was actually an important drop by Damiere Byrd in the first quarter of the game. Belichick benched Newton in the second half of the game and Stidham led the offense.

Stidham saw his struggles, too. He completed only four of his 11 attempts for 44 yards. Both quarterbacks made mistakes and Belichick will have to make the right decision.

Newton will probably be one-and-done in the team. He doesn’t even look like the player who won the 2015 NFL MVP award. Maybe Belichick will start Stidham in Week 17. This would give him a chance to show his skills and maybe convince the Patriots quarterback that he is the right player to start games with the team.

Coach Belichick doesn’t really talk about his future plans, and maybe we will have to wait until the offseason. New England didn’t make a decision on their quarterback until this past July. Belichick made Newton compete with Stidham and Brian Hoyer in training camp. Newton earned the job but failed to meet the expectations. Some NFL experts predicted his struggles and they were all right about this. Let’s see what happens in Week 17. Maybe Newton will start the game and even earn his 2021 job.
