Bill Belichick Shares Injury Update on Julian Edelman in Classic Belichick Fashion

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick knows how to provide the “perfect answer” and this time he provided an injury update on veteran wideout Julian Edelman. In his own way, of course.

According to the legendary coach, Edelman is “day-to-day.” The veteran ended up on injured reserve following his knee procedure. The Patriots placed him on IR Oct. 31. His recovery was doing pretty well, and many predicted Edelman’s return. Well, it didn’t happen, and Edelman was placed on the COVID-19/reserve list. We don’t know whether he had the virus or was in contact with an infected person. New England removed Edelman from the covid list Dec. 10. Players were playing their Week 14 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Patriots players will practice indoors Wednesday and Edelman is eligible to practice since earning a spot on the covid list. Will he play in the next few weeks?

“When he’s ready, we’ll start him,” Belichick said. “If he’s not ready, then he’ll keep working and we’ll wait until he’s ready.”

Once Edelman returns to the practice field, New England has 21 days to activate him from IR.

Belichick didn’t provide a promising injury update on Julian Edelman

During his time in the 2020 season, Edelman had 21 catches for 315 yards in six games. He had career-high 179 receiving yards on eight catches in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks. However, Edelman caught just eight passes for 79 yards in the next four games before ending on injured reserve.

Head coach Bill Belichick had to come up with a perfect solution to Edelman’s issue. Wide receivers Damiere Byrd, Jakobi Meyers, and N’Keal Harry stepped up their game and replaced the veteran wideout. Gunner Olszewski and Donte Moncrief helped a bit. Devin Smith, Kristian Wilkerson, and Isaiah Zuber are part of the Patriots’ practice unit.

New England has a 6-7 record at this point of the season and they have small chances to make the playoffs. This depends on many other factors, including the record of other NFL teams. Head coach Belichick is already planning his offseason and he is expected to make a few more moves regarding the quarterback position.
