Details of Star CB Stephon Gilmore Injury Revealed

New England Patriots veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore suffered a season-ending injury in Sunday’s loss to the Miami Dolphins. The veteran needed assistance to make the medical tent and didn’t return to finish the game.

Ian Rapoport from NFL Network reported that Gilmore’s knee is fine. The cornerback partially torn his quad. Gilmore will undergo a surgery to treat his injury. His recovery won’t take too long, and it won’t be as rigorous as it would have been had he suffered a torn ACL.

Gilmore won’t return to the field this season. His team left the playoff run following the 22-12 loss to the Miami Dolphins. However, the most recent report on Gilmore’s injury is more than promising.

The Patriots to make a decision on Stephon Gilmore following his injury

New England has yet to make a decision regarding Gilmore’s future with the team. The Reigning Defensive Player of the Year may stay with the Patriots. New England may also trade him. If Gilmore’s injury was severe, his value would definitely see a significant drop.

NFL experts admit that Gilmore is one of the best cornerbacks in the league. However, he is 30, and he can’t really lose a step right now. If his surgery is successful and Gilmore returns to his original form, the Patriots could still get some value in their future trade. The Patriots have great depth at corner. Pro-Bowl snub J.C. Jackson, Johnathon Jones, Jason McCourty, and undrafted rookie Myles Bryant belong to this group.

Gilmore suffered a terrible injury and that’s a big inconvenience right now. He may also lose the chance to win another Defensive Player of the Year award.

New England gave Gilmore a raise earlier in 2020. However, the cornerback “has yet to cash in on his hardware.” This will probably take place in 2021. A more serious injury will affect his future in the NFL.

The veteran cornerback has eight interceptions. The Patriots will play the final two games without Gilmore. This will give Jackson a chance to prove that he is a top cornerback. Let’s see what happens in the next few weeks.
