Former Patriots Executive Has Telling Cam Newton Comment

Veteran quarterback Cam Newton had some struggles this past season. The New England Patriots signed him to win more games, but players were able to win even in his bad days. Newton won the 2015 NFL MVP award and he is one of the greatest quarterbacks in league history. A former Patriots executive has a story on the veteran, and some fans will agree on this one.

New England signed Newton in order to fill the void Tom Brady left behind. Newton is a former No.1 overall NFL Draft pick and TB12 is a six-time Super Bowl champion. It was a big challenge, but Newton was ready to take it.

The starting quarterback had a good start this season and he stacked some nice numbers. However, COVID-19 changed his plans, and Newton struggled upon his return to the field. It was an up-and-down season for the veteran and New England enters Sunday’s game with a 6-5 record.

Patriots executive has a theory on Cam Newton

Newton was brilliant at Auburn and fans already talk about his future with the Patriots. Will the organization keep him on the roster in 2021?

Mike Lombardi has more on this. The former Patriots executive couldn’t really provide an answer to this question. The team may go after a quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft and the Indianapolis Colts are here to make things hard for them.

“That’s a hard one for me to answer,” Lombardi said. “I think for me, I think where they sit in the draft there’s going to be a lot of teams — Indianapolis is going to be a team after a quarterback as well. I think the draft ideally would be the best place to go get a young quarterback to develop if they can get up there and get one. I think that is ultimately what they would have to do. If they like somebody, go get him.

“I think you could bring Cam back and still go get a quarterback. I am not
sure what the solution is in the interim. I don’t think it’s Ryan Fitzpatrick
for that, I don’t think it is that. I don’t know what the solution is and I
don’t know what the offseason is going to bring. I mean, there’s going to be a lot of jobs open. Do you think Josh McDaniels is coming back? How does that play into the decision? There are so many variables. … There are so many variables that it’s just not a straight line.”
