JR Smith Sparks Controversy With Comments on LeBron James

JR Smith started off yet another controversy and this one is related to LeBron James and his two-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers.

LeBron secured his future with the Lakers, but some of the reports were too ridiculous. Guess what… JR Smith called out those who shared the wrong message.

ESPN shared a graphic on the money LeBron will be earning with his new contract. It was a detailed analysis, providing the right amount of money the four-time NBA champion will get every minute and second. Imagine that! According to this, LeBron will earn about $5,000 each out. Some people couldn’t hide their envy.

Retired rugby player Todd Clever wrote, “A candy bar every second. I want that deal.”

Another comment read, “If he dropped a dollar, it wouldn’t even be worth his time to pick it up.”

Smith’s reaction got over 5,000 likes and 550 replies within a few hours.

“Feel like he’s the only person we do that with?” the veteran wrote. “Why people always want to know how much the next person makes [and] the breakdown? Just saying.”

The same graphic was done on other thick contracts in the world of sports. Smith was just trying to stand by his teammate. He won a couple of titles with LeBron – one during their time with the Cleveland Cavaliers and another this past season.

Smith has earned good money throughout his NBA career. However, his net worth can’t match LeBron’s numbers. He has earned $90 million and will get another $1.45 million next year from the Cavs despite not playing a single game for the team in two seasons.

Smith is available right now, and he will have to look for a new home in the NBA.

LeBron’s extension with the Lakers came like a surprise to many people. Everyone was so focused on Davis’ contract extension with the team. Well, LeBron didn’t want to waste his time doing nothing and he did the right thing. The four-time NBA champion will turn 36 later this month, and he was just trying to secure his spot and finances.
