Lakers $15.5 Million Man Has Potentially Made a Decision About His Future

The Los Angeles Lakers signed a group of talented players this offseason. Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell, Marc Gasol and Wesley Matthews signed their deals with the reigning champions. From what we can see, some of the newly-acquired Lakers players would love to stay around for a while and this says a lot about their future.

Schroder is in the final year of his deal. His future may be hanging in the air, but one thing stands for sure. He wants to stay in LA.

The Atlanta Hawks selected Schroder with the No.17 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. He had a slow start to his career, and then became essential to their game on the basketball court. The German native averaged 3.7 points per game in his rookie campaign. In 2014-15, Schroder was averaging 10 points per game and shot 35.1% from 3-point range. He had a nice role on the Hawks team and Atlanta was 60-22 that year. They even made the Eastern Conference Finals.

In 2015-16, Schroder was averaging 11 points per game and signed a four-year extension worth $70 million. In 2016-17, he was averaging 17.9 points and shot 45.1% from the field. Things got even better in 2017-18 season. Schroder was averaging 19.4 points and 6.2 assists per game, but the team traded him to the Oklahoma City Thunder. His stats saw a slight drop. In the 2019-20 season, Schroder had 18.9 points per game and shot career-best 46.9% from the field.

Lakers front office made a good decision

LA signed the talented player for a reason. In his first two games with the team, he was averaging 16 points, seven assists and seven rebounds. If you ask Schroder, he will definitely choose to stay in LA.

Very comfortable (in LA so far),” the talented veteran said. “For sure, I want to extend. But like I said, it’s got to be fair on both sides, and we can talk about it. But for sure. It’s a hell of an organization from what I’ve seen so far this month. Teammates are amazing, front office, the people here, they’re doing everything for you and your family. … If you want to be in that environment, you can just focus on basketball every single day. I would love to. It’s just got to be fair on both sides, and that’s all I got to say.”
