Latest on Kyle Kuzma Extension Talks With Lakers

Kyle Kuzma has yet to sign his deal, and recent records reveal that the player has engaged in extension talks with the front office. This doesn’t change the fact that Kuzma’s saga with the team continues.

Kuzma has been part of the Lakers team for three years. It wasn’t a smooth ride for the young player. However, he had a key role in the championship team in Orlando. Young Kuzma struggled with inconsistency, and his production changed following the signing of Anthony Davis. LA tried really hard to bring Davis in LA, but his arrival pushed Kuzma to the second unit.

This inconsistency affected his extension talks with the team. LA may not find a solution to Kuzma’s situation in the 2020-21 season.

Kyle Kuzma is unsure about his extension talks

Kyle Goon of The OC Register reported that Kuzma’s contract extension talks are now “tabled.” Kuzma and his team talked with Lakers head coach Frank Vogel and General Manager Rob Pelinka earlier this month.

The Lakers front office can meet with the young player prior to the start of the new season. These reports also claim that the franchise has yet to make definite plans. Kuzma is pretty unsure about his role with the team next season. He talked to the media and said he was unsure about his next position. LeBron James and AD were super excited to see him on the floor. Both superstars predict a big season for your younger teammate. LeBron even said that Kuzma would have the best leap in 2020-21.

Pelinka was focused on securing his superstars. Giving a contract extension to both LeBron and Davis was a priority for the team. LeBron got a two-year deal extension, and Davis signed a five-year max extension. LA doesn’t have much room for another extension. Well, they did have some room, but LA signed Kentavious Caldwell-Pope signed his three-year deal worth $39 million.

Kuzma will earn $3.5 million this season. Without his extension, he will earn less than Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell, and Wesley Matthews.
