LeBron James Addresses on Potentially Stepping Back as Primary Ball-Handler This Season

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James will play with a really talented group in the upcoming season. General Manager Rob Pelinka surrounded him with great players, and maybe we will see the great LeBron James stepping back as a primary ball-handler for the team.

The four-time NBA champion addressed his role in the 2020-21 NBA season. He doesn’t mind being the primary ball-handler for the reigning champions this season. But, LeBron also said he is fine if the Lakers don’t “need that.”

According to King James, newly-added Dennis Schroder and Marc Gasol could become great playmakers for the Lakers in the upcoming season.

“If it presents for me to be the primary ballhandler and also try to lead the league in assists, I can (take that) responsibility … if our team doesn’t need that, that’s absolutely fine as well.”

This will relieve his playmaking responsibilities. However, Lakers head coach Frank Vogel is the one to make these decisions.

LeBron James won’t be stepping back completely

LeBron would take any role to keep the Lakers win more games this season. He won his fourth ring in Orlando and he is ready to go after the next one.

Rajon Rondo left the Lakers in free agency, so the Lakers will probably rely on LeBron’s ability to create offensive plays for his teammates.

In the 2019-20 season, LeBron led the NBA in assists per game. He was averaging 10.2 assists per game with the Lakers. It’s interesting to see LeBron led the league in assists for the first time in his professional career.

Anthony Davis can be the No.1 scoring option for the Team. Vogel may use LeBron to create later in the season. In other words, we don’t really believe that LeBron will take the back seat in games.

His 2019-20 season was brilliant as he was averaging 25.3 points per game on 49.3 percent shooting from the field.

LA plans to go after another title, and LeBron will do his best to make this happen. He will share the court with great veterans and young forces. No other team is built this way, and LA better use this advantage to win.
