Patriots Coach Bill Belichick Names His Starting Quarterback for Week 13

Patriots quarterback Cam Newton didn’t play his best game in Week 12, and head coach Bill Belichick revealed whether he will be the starting quarterback for the team in Week 13.

Media members asked the Patriots head coach if he would use Jarrett Stidham instead of Newton. His response doesn’t come as a surprise at this point.

“We’re just going to keep working to get better. He threw for 350 last week, so the most important thing is we made the plays we need to make to win, and that’s what the goal will be every week.”

Patriots pick the right starting quarterback

Yes, they are keeping Newton in the starting position. But, when Belichick received the same question a few weeks ago, he said, “Cam Newton is our quarterback.” He didn’t use the same words this time. Is there any possibility for Stidham to start instead of Newton? Maybe Belichick is just waiting to hear what offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch have to say about this.

When the 2015 NFL MVP threw an interception on the first pass, it was his first pick in 117 pass attempts. That’s the second-longest active streak in the league.

Newton wasn’t at his best on Sunday, but he had a nice game with his legs and actually helped Nick Folk hit his game-winning field goal.

Let’s not forget that the Patriots won this game. Benching Newton at his point doesn’t really make sense. He was benched in the game against the San Francisco 49ers, but it was a good decision at that point. Stidham stepped in as a replacement for Newton. He completed 48.7 percent of his passes with one touchdown and four picks in his short career in the league.

Newton is a true leader with amazing running game. Stidham doesn’t have any of that. Many would agree that Newton is the best quarterback option for the Patriots right now.

If Newton makes the same mistakes as he did in the game against San Francisco, he will end up sitting on the bench. For now, coach Belichick is fine with having Newton at center.
