Patriots Coach Josh McDaniels Sums Up His Thoughts On Cam Newton

The New England Patriots are still trying to get over Thursday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams. It was an ugly loss, and NFL experts tore veteran quarterback Cam Newton up for his interception. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels shared his thoughts on Newton.

In his appearance on WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show, Newton defended his OC. Most of the questions were related to McDaniels’ play-calling. Patriots players will probably agree with Newton on this one.

“One thing that’s not going to happen, and let me be perfectly clear, you’re not about to create any type of division between me and Josh McDaniels,” the veteran said. “There’s been times where, as a player, you kind of bail your coach out because of the plays that you may make. But more times than not, Josh has bailed the whole team out because of his theory and his in-game adjustments. So it’s give and take.”

Josh McDaniels has great thoughts on Cam Newton

McDaniels received similar questions Tuesday. It looks like everyone is trying to pull out a different answer from McDaniels. No, he didn’t blame Newton for the 24-3 loss to LA.

“As far as Cam is concerned, I couldn’t ask anything more of him,” McDaniels said.

Head coach Bill Belichick was getting a lot of Newton-related questions, too. His answers had a different tone compared to what McDaniels said.

“Our passing game is still not as efficient as we need it to be,” he said.

What does this mean?

Newton is great runner but experts are concerned about his ability to move the chains in the passing game. According to stats, he has 2,172 passing yards in 12 starts.

Newton’s contract expires at the end of the season. He has three games left to show Belichick that he can be starter for the Patriots in the upcoming season.

NFL analysts aren’t really convinced that Belichick would like to stick with Newton. Maybe he will go with another veteran. Maybe he will select a player in the 2021 NFL Draft.
