Patriots Loss Shows Two Players Team Can Build Around In Future

The New England Patriots are out of playoff contention. Miami Dolphins players defeated head coach Bill Belichick’s team on Sunday. It was a tragic 22-12 loss for the team. The Patriots organization has to make several decisions regarding the future. Fans will have to watch other teams compete for the big Super Bowl. Patriots players will be done playing their game in early January for the second straight season. Where does this leave the Patriots?

The 2019 team made the wild-card round of the playoffs. The 2020 team is missing the entire postseason. It’s a disappointing season for the team.

Veteran quarterback Cam Newton signed with the team in an effort to help them win more games. His signing wasn’t of great help. Patriots had promising pieces on offense and defense to work with. However, two players had great success week in and week out.

Cornerback JC Jackson intercepted his eighth pass of the season, had four tackles and allowed just four catches on six targets for 34 yards against Miami.

Patriots have great support for the future

Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers was the most productive offensive player in New England. He was able to catch seven passes on 11 targets for 111 yards from Cam Newton.

“We’ve just gotta execute better — especially me,” Meyers said. “The team put me in a position to make plays and help the team win. I didn’t do my job to the best of my ability. I’ve gotta take that one personally for sure.”

Jackson is second behind Miami cornerback Xavien Howard.

“I saw the ball, and I went to attack the ball and made a play,” he said after his game.

Newton has words of praise for Meyers, saying he is a player who makes the most of his chances.

“It’s something that you kind of tip your hat to, a guy who makes the most of his opportunity and that’s pretty much what it is,” Newton said Sunday. “He doesn’t blink. The moment is never too big for him. I know he wishes he would have had that fumble back just like I wish I would have had mine back, but when you battle hard, mistakes happens. We got all week just to get critiqued on 60 minutes, and sometimes it’s fair, sometimes it’s not fair, but at the end of the day, we just keep doing what we can control.”
