Patriots QB Cam Newton Shares His Thoughts on Retirement

New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton and his teammates didn’t make the playoffs this season and NFL experts started talking about his retirement. Will Newton put an end to his football career? Newton did have a great game throughout the entire season. But, he had some struggles, too. Newton wanted to prove everyone wrong and he has so much to do right now.

“Listen, I am not there. One of my goals this year, for what’s worth, was just to finish the year healthy. This year God has granted and gave me the opportunity to have a healthy season,” Newton said. “I still have a lot of football left and the urge to be better. After putting out this film? I can’t go out like this.”

Cam Newton doesn’t even think of his retirement

Newton and his Patriots teammates lost the game against the Miami Dolphins. It was a big loss for the team. Newton had 209 passing yards on 17-of-27 passes without a touchdown. The 2015 NFL MVP had three sacks by Miami’s defensive line in the 22-12 loss.

The Patriots’ most recent loss put the team out of the playoff run for the first time in 12 seasons. New England has a 6-8 record and rank third in the AFC East. The team had too many losses this season and the Buffalo Bills clinched the division title. Head coach Bill Belichick gave up the divisional title to the Bills after an 11-year dynasty.

Newton had to play with a new team. He had to stay healthy and strong. His team didn’t make the playoffs, but Newton was able to stay healthy and that’s a great achievement. Let’s not forget that the quarterback missed a lot of time due to his injuries. He is healthy and strong, and hopefully, he will be able to play his best football in the next few seasons. Newton had three trips to the Pro Bowl and earned his NFL MVP honors in 2015. He can definitely end his career with a successful season. Will New England keep him around for a while?
