Patriots Sign Defensive Back to Practice Squad

The New England Patriots made yet another move and decided to sign a defensive back to the practice unit.

Dayan Lake is making his way to New England and his agent, Evan Brennan, confirmed the signing on Instagram.

Lake is an undrafted rookie and he worked out with the team this week. He was part of the Los Angeles Rams in training camp, but the team cut him in the final roster trimmings. The defensive back has yet to play an NFL game.

Sources reveal that Lake was both safety and cornerback at BYU. He was also a four-year collegiate starter. In his collegiate career, he had 203 tackles, six interceptions, 14 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries in 47 games. Lake has done great work on special teams, earning a healthy dose of praise.

Patriots sign defensive back for the win

Lake was Dayan Ghanwoloku in college and ran a 4.41-second 40-yard dash, 4.25-second short shuttle, and 6.85-second three-cone drill at an unofficial pre-draft workout. Brennan confirmed that New England met him on FaceTime in the pre-draft process.

The Patriots entered Wednesday with two empty spots in the 16-man practice unit. The team released defensive back JT Hassell. Players spent the week in Los Angeles as they get ready for Thursday’s game against the Rams.

Releasing Hassell was a big blow for the team, but the team decided they don’t need his service anymore. His release comes a week after the team added him to the practice unit. Hassell is a talented player and he overcame a lot of obstacles to make a name for himself. His athleticism and great skills attracted everyone’s attention. New England doesn’t need him for now, but they can always add him to the practice unit. That may happen in the remaining weeks of the regular season.

The Patriots are playing LA and it’s a must-win game for the team. They have won two straight games and these wins put them inside the playoff picture. Veteran quarterback Cam Newton has so much to do right now, and head coach Bill Belichick has great expectations from him.
