Peter King Evaluates Likelihood of Dak Prescott Joining Patriots

The New England Patriots have a 6-7 record at this point of the season. Head coach Bill Belichick and his team broke a really long record, and he is expected to miss the playoffs. Well, Belichick can still have success, and his success depends on many other factors, including the record of other teams. Many encourage the legendary head coach to move on from veteran Cam Newton and plan his 2021 offense around another quarterback. Peter King has one idea on his mind, and he discussed Dak Prescott and Belichick’s Patriots. Sort of.

Prescott is the biggest fish in the impending free-agent class.

Prescott is signed under the terms of the franchise tag this season. He will soon enter free agency. NFL experts believe that Prescott will stay with his team. However, he suffered a leg injury and Dallas may be going somewhere else. We also believe that Prescott may be willing to change his team. The Cowboys played without him, and he took that into consideration.

Dak Prescott to the Patriots

The Patriots nation shouldn’t get too excited about this opportunity. According to King, Belichick may not have the assets to get Prescott.

“I mean, I’m sure Bill Belichick would love to have Dak Prescott,” King said Friday on NBC Sports. “But I don’t think Bill Belichick — in a year when the cap is going for $198 (million) to $175 (million) — I don’t think he would want Dak Prescott at $38 (million) or $40 million a year on average. It’s just not a good play when you’re trying to rebuild your team long term, in my opinion.”

King may be right about this one. If New England moves on from their current starter, they may go with second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham and another veteran. The Patriots will have some salary-cap flexibility this spring, but they have to address too many questions.

New England finished Week 14 with a terrible 24-3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. They will play against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, and they better win this one. Let’s see what happens by the end of the season.
