Report: Frank Vogel Considering Shaking Up Lakers Starting Lineup

Newly-acquired guard Dennis Schroder is ready to join the Los Angeles Lakers starting lineup in the upcoming season. Head coach Frank Vogel considers using his new guard.

Vogel discussed the chance of Schroder joining the starting five. He talked to media members, and said it was too soon to make a decision. However, he did praise Schroder.

“He’s going to be one of our most important players, and a big-minutes player for us,” Vogel said as reported by Mike Trudell. “I love his edge that he plays with, his demeanor. The nasty competitor side of him is something you hate playing against but you love it when he’s on your team. I’m thrilled about it. Vogel said that it’s too soon to decide upon a starting lineup, but he’s definitely going to give Dennis Schroder “strong consideration” to start. Vogel said Schroder is a great fit to play alongside LeBron because he can be effective on and off the ball.”

Dennis Schroder to make the Lakers starting lineup

The German native finished runner-up for the Sixth Man of the Year award this past season in Oklahoma City Thunder. He wants to start games, and nothing will change that.

“I did this off-the-bench stuff already in two years with OKC,” Schroder said. “I think I try to move forward, and I think with [Anthony Davis] and LeBron, I can be helpful as a starter in the PG position.”

Kyle Kuzma moved to the Lakers bench in the 2019-20 season. He started 115 games in his first two years with the Lakers, averaging 12.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per 25 minutes of game coming off the Lakers bench. This is nothing like the 30 minutes he played in the 2018-19 season. Kuzma was averaging 19 points per game and LA could really use these numbers. The young Laker plays at elite level, and he better keep playing this way.

Taking his new role wasn’t really easy, but Kuzma learned so much from LeBron and AD. He will keep learning and LA may give him a better role.
