Report: Julian Edelman Future In New England Patriots Is ‘Uncertain’

Veteran wideout Julian Edelman is worried about his future with the New England Patriots. The Patriots didn’t activate Edelman from injured reserve prior their game against the Buffalo Bills.

New England won’t play in the playoffs this season. This is probably one of the reasons head coach Bill Belichick had to keep Edelman out of the field. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Edelman’s season is already over.

Julian Edelman has questions about his future with the Patriots

The Patriots had an awful season. Patriots players had their struggles on the field and there were too many injuries on the roster. Edelman, Stephon Gilmore and many others suffered injuries. The 2018 Super Bowl MVP played in six games and had 21 receptions for 315 yards and didn’t make the end zone. Edelman struggled with his knee ailment throughout the entire season and had to undergo a surgery. He had his injury after Week 7 and the team placed him on injured reserve. This was the last game Edelman played in 2020. From what we can see, he won’t play this season.

Rapoport suggested that Edelman’s future with the Patriots is unclear. Everyone likes him and Edelman has the greatest experience than any other player on the current roster. But, NFL experts have concerns about Edelman’s age.

New England will have among the most salary cap in football in 2021. The team may also add to the cap value. Cutting Edelman is one of the ways to go. This move would save the Patriots over $3 million.

Head coach Bill Belichick has great respect for Edelman. However, he can easily move on from the aging veteran. He has already done this with position players like Edelman.

The 2020 NFL season didn’t go well for the Patriots. They lost the battle and it looks like Belichick will have to make several changes to the roster. Several Patriots players may have to go.
