Report: Patriots Have Signed A Veteran NFL Offensive Lineman

The New England Patriots have three weeks left of their 2020 season, and now they signed a veteran offensive lineman. Yes, head coach Bill Belichick insists on adding more talent to the offensive line.

Mike Reiss from ESPN reported that New England made an effort to sign veteran offensive lineman Earl Watford. During his last game in the NFL, Watford played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tom Brady’s Buccaneers.

Patriots signed offensive lineman to boost the unit

The Arizona Cardinals selected Watford in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. During his time at James Madison, Watford was a first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association player as a senior and junior.

Watford spent several seasons with the Cardinals and then signed a two-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team released him a few months after inking the deal. Since his time with the Jaguars, Watford has spent short months with the Bears, Browns, Buccaneers and Cardinals. The former fourth-round pick was brilliant, but has yet to find a home in the NFL.

Let’s be honest. Watford is a journeyman at his position. In other words, he won’t be seen as a “marquee acquisition” for the Patriots. Head coach Belichick and his staff know how to develop offensive lineman. They have had great success in this aspect. Maybe Watford is Belichick’s new developmental project.

If the Patriots don’t offer him a big deal, Watford will add depth to this season’s banged-up offensive line.

The Patriots have a 6-7 record at this point of the season and they will need a miracle to make the playoffs. Well, we all know that Bill Belichick can do miracles. He has done that before. New England has plenty of the roster, but players made too many mistakes. Cam Newton, Josh McDaniels… Everyone took the blame. But, it wasn’t really up Newton to make a change. He did his best, but lacked great weapons on the field. His passing game wasn’t too good either. Let’s see how will things develop for New England in the next few weeks. Will they make the playoffs? Will Belichick do another miracle?
