Report: Patriots Release Young Tight End

The New England Patriots will finish their season with a losing record. For the first time since Season 1 with the Patriots, head coach Bill Belichick and his assistants will have a losing record. The team suffered a terrible loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday, and have a 6-9 record at the moment. If they win the game against the New York Jets, New England will finish the regular season with 7-9. The Patriots have started making changes and this time they decided to release a tight end.

Superstar quarterback Tom Brady took his talents to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leaving the Patriots with an open quarterback spot. They signed veteran quarterback Cam Newton and Belichick gave him the starting job, but it didn’t work. Newton had some struggles on the field, and he is not the only Patriots player to finish the season with a headache.

Tight end Jordan Thomas is no longer a Patriot. Mike Reiss reported that the Patriots have released Thomas. Let’s not forget that the team listed him as inactive in the past few weeks.

The young tight end started the regular season with the Arizona Cardinals. The team waived him in November and Thomas joined the Patriots. It was a good opportunity for the former Mississippi State standout, but he wasn’t a good fit for the team. The former sixth-round pick will enter the open market hoping to find a home in the NFL.

Thomas is out now and the Patriots have so much to do in the upcoming offseason. First, they have to find a starting quarterback. Keeping Cam Newton under center is not really a good idea. Maybe Belichick will keep him in New England. If he decides to do this, he will have to give him the right weapons. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will have to change his approach, too. Of course, he has to make a decision on his future with the Patriots. The OC has been linked with several teams, and we all know that he wants to coach his own NFL team.
