Stephon Gilmore Shares Powerful Letter to Son About Social Justice

New England Patriots veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore wrote a thoughtful letter to his son Sebastian. Let’s just say that athletes all across the world will support this. The same applies to fans and pretty much every decent human being.

Gilmore made the perfect cleats for the NFL’s “My Cause My Cleats” campaign. He used the entire shoe to deliver a message. A bold one. Hopefully, his word will be heard.

The Patriots cornerback featured a short letter he wrote to Sebastian. The little boy wanted to know what “BLM” stands for. He wanted to know more about the true meaning of the “Black Lives Matter” movement. Gilmore provided the perfect explanation.

Gilmore wrote the entire letter on his cleats, and the five-year-old should be really proud of his father.

“Dear Bash, I know you’re only five years old, but by the time you’re able to fully understand the words on this page, I hope you don’t have to experience the ugly truth within my answer to your innocent question.

“I pray that it gets better very soon so you and (your sister) Gisele don’t have to experience this. …

“Why do people keep saying ‘Black Lives Matter?’ Because they do, son.”

Gilmore wore the meaningful cleats in the Patriots’ “Thursday Night Football” loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Stephon Gilmore writes a letter to his son, others deliver strong messages

Athletes have delivered similar messages in the past. NBA players wore powerful messages on their jerseys inside the Orlando bubble. Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and other basketball players used their presence inside the NBA bubble to deliver a message. They even boycotted games.

We do hope that this world will become a better place for next generations. Kids deserve a safer and happier world. There are so many things we, adults, can change. It all starts with us. If we can’t change it, we should definitely raise our voices. We have to send a message, otherwise we won’t be understood.

Gilmore and his teammates are getting ready for the end of the regular season. They will probably miss the playoffs, and head coach Bill Belichick is already planning the next season.
