Patriots fans had the opportunity to see Gunner Olszewski return a punt and hit his first NFL touchdown and everyone seems to be impressed. Well, Olszewski has already done this but the questionable penalty call shut it down. The second-year Patriot pulled out an incredible move in the game against the Los Angeles Chargers, giving his team a chance to win.
The New England Patriots used the 70-yard return from Olszewski to get a two-touchdown lead at SoFi Stadium. Olszewski used a few great blocks and was able to stay in bounds as he rushed down the sideline and into the endzone in the second quarter of the game. The 24-year-old is just doing his job, and head coach Bill Belichick likes it a lot.
This touchdown is actually the first punt-return touchdown for the team since the 2014 NFL season.
The Patriots started adding numbers midway through the first quarter of the game. The 2015 NFL MVP “powered over the goal line” on a one-yard dash. This was the 10th rushing touchdown for Newton this season. The talented veteran has three career seasons with 10-plus scored on the ground. You can’t underestimate that.
Gunner Olszewski to return another punt
Veteran wideout Julian Edelman had great advice for Olszewski and he was willing to help him get used to the rhythm. In August, Olszewski shared some of the advice he has received from Edelman. When he first joined the team, Olszewski wanted to be like Troy Brown or Edelman. However, he soon realized that players move differently and “some stuff” doesn’t work for everyone. Edelman encouraged him to find his own way. “Don’t do what I do,” he said, asking him to figure out what works for him.
Coach Belichick said Olszewski has improved a lot, and he had great expectations for the player. Let’s see if Olszewski keeps rocking the football field in the next few games. New England needs that as they need to win every game on the schedule. Winning Week 13 is a must for the team right now.
