Bill Belichick Addresses on Rumors Swirling on Cam Newton Future

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is not someone who pays too much attention to rumors. The Patriots are out of the playoff race, and NFL experts have started making predictions about the Patriots’ next move. 2020 was awful for the Patriots. It all started with Tom Brady’s departure from the team New England finished the season with a 7-9 record, and it’s the first losing record since Belichick’s first season with the team. Brady left a big void behind. New England tried to replace him with veteran Cam Newton. The 2015 NFL MVP didn’t have success with the team. Adam Schefter released a report suggesting that Belichick won’t be part of Cam Newton and his future.

“Cam Newton sounded resigned this week to the fact that he’ll be moving on from New England,” he said on “Sunday NFL Countdown.” “It looks like he’s looking for something different, the Patriots are looking for something different. Both sides enjoyed their relationship, but both sides expect that it will take them to a different place and a different direction in 2021 with Cam Newton likely moving on and the Patriots in search of a new quarterback for next season. We’ll see what direction they decide to go.”

Belichick shut down every rumor on Cam Newton and his future

This was just part of the rumors. Head coach Belichick brushed off the most recent rumor.

Q: There was a report on ESPN today there’s an understanding between you and Cam Newton that you’ll be going in different directions this offseason. Is there an understanding this was Cam’s final game?

A: Is that another one of your anonymous reports?

Q: That was from Adam Schefter this morning.

A: I don’t think that’s what Adam said. You should talk to Adam about that then. Great question, thank you.

New England finished the regular season with a 28-14 win over the New York Jets. They ended 2020 with a win, and players have a big break now. Belichick and the Patriots will miss the playoffs for the first time in 12 years.
