Bill Belichick Pulls Out Last-Minute Save to Keep Valuable Front Office Piece

Nick Caserio left the New England Patriots front office. He joined the Houston Texans to fill in their general manager vacancy. Assistant Director of Player Personnel Dave Ziegler interviewed for the Denver Broncos GM position. Bill Belichick and New England almost lost another member of the front office.

NFL Insider Albert Breer reported that Belichick met with Ziegler Sunday morning. This meeting was enough for Ziegler to withdraw his name for the position in Denver.

Bill Belichick made Dave Ziegler stay in Patriots front office

It’s against league rules for New England to promise Ziegler the position. But, everything points to the fact that Ziegler is the first person to take Caserio’s former job. The Broncos had a really good chance of getting Ziegler. Belichick stepped in and Ziegler’s plans changed. The legendary coach was able to convince Ziegler to stay in New England. This only confirms the fact that Denver was serious about getting Ziegler.

New England hasn’t drafted well on the offense in the past 10-12 seasons. Caserio is out of the team, and maybe his departure will help the Patriots improve their selections. We will get a chance to see if Belichick was the one making all the picks.

Ziegler has nothing but love for the Patriots. He is pretty serious about his role in the front office. Yes, he almost became a general manager. It’s more than obvious that Ziegler won’t become a general manager in New England. But his love for the team made him stay. The Patriots won’t make a decision in the next couple of weeks.

Belichick gets to make a decision on offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Ziegler.

Ziegler is 38 and he is one of the youngest front-office candidates in the NFL. This is probably the biggest reason Belichick had to jump into action and make him stay

Maybe Ziegler will succeed Belichick one day. Coach Belichick has been the Patriots de facto general manager for quite some time. He is 68 and will probably coach into his 70s. Ziegler shouldn’t go anywhere. He should definitely wait for Belichick to retire and then hope to become a general manager one day.
